Enda þótt Octopussy sé ein skásta James Bond mynd Roger Moores, hefur hún elst fremur illa og getur vart talist annað en miðlungs góð. Kemur þar margt til. Aulahúmor í anda Moonraker myndarinnar bregður alltof oft fyrir, pólitíkin er einfeldningsleg og fáránlegur ofleikur Steven Berkoffs sem brjálaður sovéskur herforingi skemmir mikið fyrir. Moore leikur auk þess tæpast neitt frekar en fyrri daginn. Octopussy getur engu að síður reynst viðunandi stundargaman en versnar þó við enduráhorfun.
